Excel installs an add-in from one small file, the manifest. It contains no code — only the add-in's name, its ribbon and the address it loads from.

Excel at work (Microsoft 365)

  1. Open any workbook in Excel on the web: office.com (a desktop workbook can be opened there via File ▸ Share ▸ Open in browser, or from OneDrive/SharePoint).
  2. Home ▸ Add-ins (or Insert ▸ Add-ins) ▸ More Add-ins.
  3. Choose the MY ADD-INS tab. At the top right click Upload My Add-in ▸ Browse… ▸ pick Kixlogic-Hero-manifest.xml ▸ Upload.
  4. A Kixlogic Hero tab appears on the ribbon for that browser session.
No Upload My Add-in link on the MY ADD-INS tab? Then your company has switched off user-uploaded add-ins for everyone, and nothing you do on your PC changes that. Send IT the note below — deploying it takes them a few minutes and puts Kixlogic Hero on the ribbon of every Excel (desktop and web) for the people they choose.
For IT — deploying Kixlogic Hero
  1. Microsoft 365 admin center ▸ Settings ▸ Integrated apps ▸ Upload custom apps.
  2. App type Office Add-in ▸ Provide link to manifest file ▸ https://hero.kixlogic.com/addin/manifest.xml ▸ Validate.
  3. Assign the users or groups; accept; done. It appears in their Excel within a few hours.

What it is: an Office task-pane add-in (the same technology as the Microsoft-built add-ins). Every file it loads comes from hero.kixlogic.com over HTTPS, including Microsoft's Office.js library. It makes no other network request, has no telemetry, no sign-in and no server side: the workbook is read inside Excel and only ever written back into Excel. If your web filter allows by hostname, hero.kixlogic.com is the only one Excel needs; keys.kixlogic.com is the browser page where a purchased seat key is issued. Questions: hello@kixlogic.com.

Excel for Windows (desktop) — works without IT on most PCs

Desktop Excel can load an add-in from any network folder you can read. At work that is a team or department share; at home, your own PC's admin share.

  1. Save Kixlogic-Hero-manifest.xml into a folder of its own on a network share you can read, e.g. \\fileserver\HR\Kixlogic (at home: C:\Kixlogic, reached as \\localhost\C$\Kixlogic).
  2. File ▸ Options ▸ Trust Center ▸ Trust Center Settings ▸ Trusted Add-in Catalogs.
  3. In Catalog Url enter that network path, click Add catalog, tick Show in Menu, OK.
  4. Close Excel completely and reopen it.
  5. Home ▸ Add-ins ▸ Advanced… ▸ SHARED FOLDER ▸ Kixlogic Hero ▸ Add.
If the Trusted Add-in Catalogs page is greyed out, it is locked by company policy, and if \\localhost\C$ is refused, the PC's admin share is off — either way, use a team share, or send IT the note above.

What it loads

Only files from this origin: the pane, its script, and Office.js served from here. No request ever carries workbook content anywhere — the add-in reads the open workbook inside Excel and writes only to it.
